Before Christine Brown left Kody Brown in November 2021, she was with him for more than 25 years. Now that she’s officially embraced monogamy, looking back on her plural marriage feels “embarrassing.” During a recent interview, the Sister Wives star opened up about how she used to prioritize Kody in a way that no longer feels OK to her.
She was always thinking about Kody.
Christine Brown, 53, opened up about the “embarrassing” relationship dynamic during a new Entertainment Tonight interview. Although it’s “such a weird and embarrassing thing to admit” now, Christine said she didn’t realize at first that her “life was just wrapped up in what Kody needed and what he wanted” when she was with him.
She added that she was “fixated” on Kody “even when he wasn’t there.”
“I’d be thinking, ‘Whenever he gets here, we’re gonna do this and this and this,'” she explained.
This was because things weren’t balanced.
Christine went on to explain that Kody seemingly expected his wives to think this way.
“He didn’t just insert into my life,” she said in the interview. “He didn’t just do whatever we were doing. We had to change what we were doing to accommodate him.”
In retrospect, Christine finds it frustrating and embarrassing that she tolerated that kind of behavior. Now, she can see that Kody’s expectations were “not OK” and “not fair” because they made “it so our lives were focused on him.”
She’s not sure if Kody respected her.
When asked if Kody seemed to respect her when they were together, Christine struggled to answer. She didn’t seem convinced that he did, because she’s not sure he even saw respecting his wives as important. “I don’t know if he would feel like he would need to,” she said during the interview. “Maybe in some roles, maybe in some ways, he did.”
Now that she’s monogamous, Christine finds her relationship with Kody ‘so weird.’
In October 2023, Christine married David Woolley. Even before that, in 2022, she shared that her views on polygamy had shifted. “Polygamy is not for me anymore,” she said at the time. “People can do it, it’s fine. Live your life, but no, no, not me.”
On the April 27 episode of Sister Wives, Christine reflected on her plural marriage and realized that some aspects of it, such as being with a man “who had intimate relationships and kissed other women,” seem strange to her now.
“I can’t believe I was OK with that,” she said. “But it was a religious practice. I was 100% OK with it. I didn’t get jealous about it until Robyn came along.”
